Hi, I’m Emily.
As a CCI-Certified Eating Disorder Coach and Certified Peer Specialist, I help clients recover from eating disorders, disordered eating, and/or substance use disorders.
Qualifications
Functions and benefits of coaching
Coaches work as an adiunct to a professional treatment team by providing support in-the-moment, between sessions.
Many people who are fully recovered from eating disorders or substance use disorders cite that having exposure to a recovered person in treatment was a key motivator to heal.
Coaches are not a substitute for a therapist, dietitian, etc. Coaches support these professionals by helping the client with homework and challenges in real life situations.
Coaches can help mitigate the need for a higher level of care and they can also help clients and team members through a step-down in treatment.
Coaches focus on the practical side of recovery, helping clients improve eating disorder behaviors and substance use urges, build coping skills, and set measurable goals. Coaches do not discuss underlying issues that a therapist would assist with clients and clinicians.
Sessions can include:
-
Coaching conversations about all things eating disorder and/or substance use recovery
-
Meal and/or snack support
-
Clothing, grocery shopping support, or general executive functioning/life skills support
-
Ongoing in-the-moment text support
